Physical Therapy in Colorado Springs, CO
Built for the Mountain Athlete
You moved to Colorado for the trails, the slopes, the climbs, and the alpine air. When pain is keeping you from any of it, you don't need to be told to stretch more or rest longer. You need a plan that actually works.

Ignore the Pain Long Enough and the Trail Stops Being an Option
Rest Without a Plan Doesn't Heal Athletes
"Just rest it" works for a sprained ankle, not for a body that's been compensating for months. The longer the issue is left alone, the deeper it gets wired into how you move.
Generic PT Treats the Pain, Not Your Sport
Most clinics send you home with a printed sheet of exercises and call it a plan. None of it accounts for the loads your body sees on the bike, in the snow, or under a barbell.
Time on the Couch Is Fitness You Lose
Every week off the trail is a week of cardio, strength, and confidence draining away. The longer you wait, the harder the return becomes — and the more likely the injury comes back.
Strength-First Care From PTs Who Actually Do Your Sport
Backcountry PT is built around three commitments: one-on-one care every visit, a strength-based recovery model, and providers who hike, ski, climb, ride, and lift alongside the people they treat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from new patients about how care works at Backcountry PT.
Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?
No. Colorado is a direct access state, which means you can schedule an evaluation with a doctor of physical therapy without a physician referral. Most patients book a free discovery call first to make sure we're the right fit before scheduling the initial evaluation.
Why pay out of pocket when insurance-based PT exists?
Insurance-based clinics often run multiple patients per hour, hand sessions off to aides, and limit visit length. Our cash-pay model funds one provider working with one patient for the full session, so the plan is built around your sport and goals — not around what an insurer will reimburse.
Will I have to stop training while I'm in PT?
Almost never. Our philosophy is to keep you as active as possible through recovery — that usually means modifying load, volume, or movement selection rather than shutting training down. We'd rather coach you through what your body can handle than tell you to wait it out.
Do you accept insurance, HSA, or FSA?
We're a cash-based clinic — no in-network insurance contracts. HSA and FSA funds are accepted, and we provide superbills you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Some motor vehicle accident cases are also accepted; ask about your situation on the call.
How long until I'm back to my sport?
Timelines depend on the specific issue, how long it's been going on, and how aggressively you can train through it. We address this directly in the initial evaluation so you leave with a clear sense of what the road looks like, not a vague promise. Most patients notice meaningful change in the first few sessions.
